This control pattern was thought to be an experimental. The pattern weakened the stamp causing coil breakage and needed speeds. The 9 hole pattern was the solution. The census recorded many more of these than were previously thought to exist. Not known on a full cover the user is unknown. Two examples have been found with a #344 on piece dated 1909. It was from a blue envelope and postmarked Madison Square Sta, New York, matching known Success Magazine covers, most likely a demonstrator. In 1910 a partial cover is known with the 4 cent stamp mailed to a German bank. I believe the Schermack office in NYC was the only user. New LKU of 6/18/1910 found with Hudson Terminal, NY cancel

This pattern was thought to be a broken pin version of the full 12 hole pattern. Based on census data that appears not to be the case. It is a pattern developed in its own right. Not known on cover, the user is unknown. An example has been found with a #344 on piece dated 1909. It was from a blue envelope and postmarked Madison Square Sta, New York, matching known Success Magazine covers. Most likely early experimental usage.
