The Overrun Countries Commemorative Issue
Introduction

By Hal Klein

The Overrun Countries series of thirteen, five-cent commemorative postage stamps, issued by the United States over a fifteen-month period in 1943-44, was a tribute to the nations invaded, occupied, and! or annexed by the Nazis and Axis Powers during World War II. The issue and rate was poorly planned. Five-cents was the Foreign Surface Mail Rate and the issue was released while mail was suspended to many of the countries in Europe named on the stamps!
