Classic U.S. Postal History

Columns Written by Labron Harris
Compiled by Mike Ludeman

Introduction by Mike Ludeman
Like many other collectors of stamps and postal history, Labron Harris began collecting as a young man, then discontinued the hobby to pursue college and a career. He began collecting again when a business trip to Tucson, Arizona coincided with the ARIPEX Show, and soon he was collecting postal history. Over time, the collecting interest evolved into some part time dealing at regional stamp shows in the area around his Maryland home. In 1996, he and his wife and partner, Mary, quit their other jobs and took to the philatelic show circuit as fulltime postal history dealers.

During the next twenty years, they traveled the country, working at between 30 and 40 shows every year, both on the Champion of Champions show circuit and many regional shows. Their partnership continued until 2019 when Mary died, but Labron continues to make many shows each year.

In 2014, he was asked by Linn’s Stamp News to write a regular bi-monthly column which was titled “Classic U.S. Postal History”.

I began collecting the digital “tear sheets” of his columns, which had reached a total of 45 columns by December 2021. Late last year, I asked for his permission to prepare a consolidated file of these columns to be hosted on Stamp Smarter, and he graciously granted permission to do so. The present collection includes all of these columns published to date, and this collection will be updated on a regular as new columns become available.
