The Shape of the Mouth
Type I
The line of the mouth is straight across and may even curve upward slightly in the corner.
Type Ia
The line of the mouth is straight across and may even curve upward slightly in the corner.
Type II
The line of the mouth is straight across and may even curve upward slightly in the corner. Types I, Ia and II are similar
Type III
The line of the mouth is curved much more then the other Types and curves slightly downward, particularly pronounced in the corner. This is a typical Type III, it may be more exaggerated in some.
It should be noted that the Type II stamps are usually much sharper and printed in a heavier ink than Types I and III. This shows up quite clearly in the above examples.
