The Line in the Middle of the Right Ribbon
Type I
The line to the immediate right of the fold in the ribbon appears either solid or partially broken (as in this example). This is a typical example. Many Type I and Ia stamps have a clearer definition of this line. Still, they will never have three distinct sharp dashes as in the Type II stamp at right.
Type Ia
The line to the immediate right of the fold in the ribbon appears either solid or partially broken. This is a typical example. Many Type I and Ia stamps have a clearer definition of this line. Still, they will never have three distinct sharp dashes as in the Type II stamp at right.
Type II
The line to the immediate right of the fold in the ribbon appears to be composed of three dashes. This is never found on the Type I and Ia stamps.
Type III
This is not a determining factor in the Type III, although, in general, it resembles the Type II much more than the Type I and Ia in this regard.
It should be noted that the Type II stamps are usually much sharper and printed in a heavier ink than Types I and III. This shows up quite clearly in the above examples.
