There was a short-lived distinction between government and privately printed postcards. As of April 15, 1925 privately printed postcards were raised to 2¢, while postcards printed by the government remained at 1¢. On July 1, 1928 the premium on privately printed cards was rescinded and the rate returned to 1¢. This rate remained in effect until Jan. 1, 1952. The drop letter rate remained 1¢ at Post Offices with no carrier service. |

The drop letter rate for letters at a Post Office with carrier service was 2¢ for most of the life of this stamp. On July 6, 1932 this drop letter rate increased to 3¢, but was lowered back again to 2¢ on July 1, 1933. It remained 1¢ per ounce for drop letters at Post Offices with no carrier service throughout the era. A 2¢ treaty rate with the Pan American states was in effect until April 1, 1932, when it was raised to 3¢. The treaty rate for Great Britain and Canada remained at 2¢ until Sept. 1, 1931, at which time the British rate went to the UPU rate and the to-Canada rate went to3¢. * Issue dates are primarily from the Bureau of Engraving and Printing records and updated from the Sisken/Berkun information where appropriate. If the date of issue is the same as the EDU the cover is considered a First Day Cover. Sometimes the date precedes the date of issue.
*Possible SE - This information is given in order to determine whether a stamp can be reperfed and at which sides:
1. "on any side" means that a straight-edge is possible on any of the four sides
2. "left or right" means that a straight-edge will not occur naturally at top or bottom
3. "none" means that straight-edges did not occur naturally on these stamps
Straight-edge information is given only for sheet stamps and booklet stamps.
